$200 Million Expansion of Rouse Hill Town Centre Breaks Ground, Boosting Growth in Western Sydney

A major expansion of Rouse Hill Town Centre is now officially underway, with property giant The GPT Group breaking ground on the $200 million project that’s set to reshape one of Western Sydney’s fastest-growing regions.
In a ceremonial sod-turning recently, GPT executives were joined by Hills Shire Mayor Dr. Michelle Byrne, the Darug Custodian Aboriginal Corporation, and construction partner ADCO to mark the start of construction.
The expansion will add over 50 new retail, dining and leisure offerings, and grow the centre’s footprint to more than 80,000 sqm.
“We’re seeing real momentum behind bricks-and-mortar retail,” GPT CEO Russell Proutt says: “This expansion reflects our confidence in Rouse Hill and the wider northwest corridor as a thriving economic engine for the future.”
The project will bring more than 300 construction jobs and create 400 permanent roles once completed. Upgrades include a revamped Town Green, improved public amenities, 200 additional parking spaces, and enhanced end-of-trip facilities to support sustainable transport.
Mayor Byrne said the expansion aligns with the area’s rapid transformation: “By 2041, The Hills Shire will be home to nearly 329,000 people,” she said. “Projects like this are essential to meeting that growth and creating places where people can live, work, and connect.”
The centre, co-owned by GPT and its Wholesale Shopping Centre Fund, is one of the few major retail hubs currently undergoing redevelopment in Australia. GPT’s Head of Retail, Chris Barnett, and Retail Development Chief Anthony Iannuzzi emphasised the strategic importance of Rouse Hill in GPT’s national portfolio.
“This has always been a flagship destination,” Iannuzzi says. “We’re doubling down on that status with this upgrade—ensuring it evolves with the community it serves.”
ADCO Managing Director Neil Harding called the expansion “a landmark project for Western Sydney,” one that will “create real social and economic value for the region.”
The works are scheduled to take approximately 18 months, with completion expected in late 2026.
